We wish to bring to your attention the list of Fake Universities in India 2023 declared by UGC. The information was released on its website, i.e. www.ugc.ac.in | Recently, the Higher Education Regulator, University Grants Commission (UGC), has come up with an updated list of Unrecognised state-wise Universities list and technical institutes & colleges not approved by AICTE. According to an official, “the aim is to widen the access to higher education and bring down its cost by using technological advances.” Many Innocent and irrational people or students are trapped in these Fake Universities and Institutions’ scams. Fake institutions attract innocent students using misleading, false promises and advertisements. Due to a lack of information and research about colleges or universities, many students are trapped by these institutions. So, UGC lists the names of the illegal and non-recognised universities every year. It’s informed that you please be aware and careful with these universities and be updated from time to time on the new list issued by UGC when you are going to join any university. We know that

Please verify and check the positive reputation and authority of such institutes before enrolling or giving any exam and admission. The mushroom growth of fake Vishwa Vidyalaya is a matter of great concern to the University Grants Commission (UGC) responsible for maintaining standards in Higher Education in the Country.
After due verification, the UGC has prepared 24 operating establishments as fake Universities. The UGC has also stated that “such self-styled, unrecognised Universities which are operating in contradiction of the UGC Act has been declared fake and not authorised to confer any degrees or qualifications”. According to the University Grants Commission Act, 1956, only a University established by a Central, State/ Provincial Act or an institution deemed to be a university under section 3 or an institution specially empowered by an Act of Parliament to confer UGC-specified degrees under section 22(3) of the Act.

What are Fake Universities?
The term “fake” applies to an unrecognised or unaccredited university. Fake Universities stand for those institutions which are not approved by the regulator’s approval.
In India, the University Grants Commission (UGC) is the official body responsible for recognizing universities and ensuring that they meet certain standards of quality. You can find a list of universities that have been recognized by the UGC on their website. If you have concerns about the legitimacy of a particular university, you can contact the UGC or the Ministry of Education for more information.
In these cases, UGC is the regularity authority. These universities are likely as an institution class. These universities provide students With Graduate (UG) and Post Graduate (PG) courses in various subjects and schemes. But their degree and certificate are not approved by the Indian govt and University Grant Commission (UGC).
How to identify or check fake universities in India?
Following the UGC Act 1956 under the Minister of Human Resource Development (MHRD), Government of India, no university is permitted to run colleges without the approval of the UGC.
After due verification, the UGC has prepared 24 operating establishments as fake Universities. The UGC has also stated that “such self-styled, unrecognised Universities which are operating in contradiction of the UGC Act has been declared as fake and not authorised to confer any degrees or qualifications”. According to the University Grants Commission Act, 1956, only a University established by a Central, State/ Provincial Act or an institution deemed to be a university under section 3 or an institution specially empowered by an Act of Parliament to confer UGC-specified degrees under section 22(3) of the Act.
The University Grants Commission Act, 1956, under section 22(1,) provides that a University can only award a degree.
- Established under a Central, State/Provincial Act or
- An institution deemed to be a university under section 3 of the UGC Act or
- An Institution is especially empowered by an Act of Parliament to confer the degree.
Further, Section 23 of the UGC Act prohibits using the word “University” by any institution other than a university established, as stated above. Students and the public are hereby informed that t at present following 24 self-styled, unrecognised Fake Universities in India are functioning in contravention of the UGC Act in various parts of the Country.
