Nowadays, depression has a common problem for humankind. One in three people has experienced, has experienced or will experience a significant depressive incident at some stage in their lives. There are primarily mild cases of depression, while about one in ten has a moderate or severe case.

It can affect mentally and then physically too. We may not realize that we face similar challenges, emotions, and obstacles. What exactly is Depression?

Depression is a common and serious mental health disorder that affects millions of people around the world. It is characterized by persistent feelings of sadness, hopelessness, and a lack of interest in activities that were once enjoyable. People with depression may also experience changes in their appetite, sleep patterns, and energy levels. Depression can interfere with daily functioning and can significantly impact a person’s quality of life. It is comprised of incidents for which symptoms last about two weeks. Depression may last for months or days before returning. Learn the ways you can diagnose and manage depression without requiring medications.

Depression is more than just feeling “down” or “blue.” It is a serious medical condition that requires treatment. It is not something that a person can simply “snap out of.” Left untreated, depression can lead to serious complications, including self-harm and suicide.

Signs and Symptoms

People with depression may also experience changes in their appetite, sleep patterns, and energy levels.

Here are some common signs and symptoms of depression:

  1. Persistent feelings of sadness, hopelessness, or emptiness
  2. Loss of interest in activities that were once enjoyable
  3. Changes in appetite and weight (either an increase or decrease)
  4. Changes in sleep patterns (either difficulty falling or staying asleep or sleeping too much)
  5. Decreased energy and fatigue
  6. Difficulty concentrating, making decisions, or remembering things
  7. Feelings of worthlessness, guilt, or helplessness
  8. Thoughts of death or suicide

If you are experiencing some of these symptoms, it is important to seek help from a mental health professional. With treatment, it is possible to manage and recover from depression effectively. Symptoms can also change depending on the stage of the illness, and the severity of symptoms will vary according to how long they last. You may suffer from depression if you feel these signs all night long, almost every day, for up to two weeks.

  2. I did not choose this life for myself. I am still not there where I wanted myself to be.
  3. No one will believe in my struggle until I succeed in life.

Depression can sometimes occur at any age but often begins in adults. Many chronic mood and anxiety disorders in adults begin as high levels of fear in children. Depression may appear alongside many other serious clinical ailments like Parkinson’s and diabetes. Some medications prescribed for this illness cause adverse side effects that can lead to depression. A doctor familiar with medically diagnosed and controlled diseases can help to develop the best treatment strategy.

Risk factors include Genetic, biological, environmental and psychological factors including genetic and environmental factors. Depression is now acknowledged as having its origin in youth and children, but some patients are more irritable than low mood.

Depression is seen as a severe medical condition and is aggravated by treatment. It’s important to recognize that feeling down in life can be difficult. In depressing disorders, the feelings of sorrow remain continuous.

There are several effective ways to deal with depression; the best approach will depend on the individual and the severity of their symptoms. Here are some strategies that may be helpful:

  1. Ask yourself about the source of your problem. Find out what is there missing in your life. What do you want, and what is going wrong? What exactly is pushing you towards this situation?
  2. Once you find out if there are multiple bad things going wrong in your life, like love failure, No employment or fear of being alone, and many more, try to take one issue at a point. Once you decide to fix one problem, check whether you can solve this or if there is any external help you need.
  3. Once you are sure about that, try to share with your loved ones, like your friends will be the best choice or any well-wishers, parents or relatives!
  4. If you don’t have anyone to share, there are millions of people out there who are ready to listen to you. Try to approach them. We are sure that one or another person will definitely help you. ( Sometimes we underestimate our friend list)
  5. If you feel like there is no motivation to live, Try to help others and bring smiles to others’ faces. We are sure that you will find some reasons to live. Just think about your parents or your loved ones. ” Would you let your loved ones die like this? “If not, then you should not too.
  6. Don’t assume that you are alone or that one friend, colleague, or family member will love you more than you thought. Just talk with them!
  7. If suicide ever comes across your mind, talk about it to people who love you and would like to hear your story rather than your death story.

  9. It takes time. Don’t rush. Patience is the key to success here.
  10. In order to deviate from negative and unwanted thoughts, you can watch comedy shows, porn ( Do practical stuff related to it if it helps ), web series, or any favourite movie of yours.
  11. Don’t talk about your failures. Count all the achievements and recall all the proud moments you have experienced so far.
  12. Invest time in your passion. If you want to forget something, don’t give it time. It is high time to begin working on your dreams. “NOW” is the right time to start struggling.
  13. If all those things are not working for you, then only seek medical counselling.
  14. It’s important to take care of your physical and emotional needs.   16. Last but not least! Read good books like “The power of our subconscious mind” by Joseph Murphy. These books will change your mind. These can cure any problem that an individual is suffering. These books are highly suggested.

Well, This is it. We know when depression appears in your life, think of it as a cry for help from your subconscious. Listen to it; find out what it’s trying to tell you. If you’ve been depressed for a long time, anti-depressants can give you the energy to make new choices.

Treatment and Therapies for Depression:

Treatment for depression typically involves a combination of therapies and medication. The most effective treatment plan will depend on the individual and the severity of their symptoms. Here are some common treatments and therapies:

  1. Medication: Antidepressant medication can be an effective treatment for depression. These medications work by altering the levels of certain chemicals in the brain that are believed to play a role in mood regulation.
  2. Exercise: Regular physical activity has been shown to improve mood and reduce the symptoms of depression.
  3. Electroconvulsive therapy (ECT): This treatment involves the use of electrical currents to stimulate the brain and can be effective for individuals with severe depression who have not responded to other treatments.
  4. Transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS): This treatment uses a magnetic field to stimulate the brain and can be effective for individuals with depression who have not responded to other treatments.
  5. Light therapy: This treatment involves exposure to artificial light and can be effective for individuals with the seasonal affective disorder (SAD), a type of depression that is related to changes in seasons.
  6. Alternative therapies: Some individuals may find relief from depression through alternative therapies such as acupuncture, herbal remedies, or meditation.

It’s important to work with a mental health professional to determine the most appropriate treatment plan for your specific needs. With the right treatment and support, it is possible to manage and recover from depression.

However, though medication may make you feel better, the cure for depression is still in your hands. Only when you confront and understand the actual cause of your depression and then take action to address it will you finally be liberated from it, no matter what the temperature outside.
