After a long journey on a flight, there is a high possibility for you to end up with jet lag. Hence, adjusting to a different time zone can be a frustrating experience for you. If you are about to go on a long journey or if you have just completed a long journey, you must be looking for a convenient method to overcome jet lag.

What Is Jet Lag?

Basically, Jet Lag is a set of symptoms that occur when our internal body clock is disrupted. We all have a built-in body clock. It can occur when the time you travel quickly across two or more time zones. A small group of unique ‘body clock (circadian rhythm)‘ genes ( Known as suprachiasmatic nucleus, or SCN) tuned us with the pattern of day and night. It means our body clock can affect sleep, hunger, mood, blood pressure according to time.

What Causes Jet Lag?

The Jetlag happens because rapid travel throws off our biological clock (body clock) that helps control when we wake and fall asleep. It’s due to the inability of the body of a traveller to rapidly adapt to the time in a different zone.

For example, when an Indian takeoff to US countries at the midnight US time, his or her body continues to operate on Indian time. Because body struggles to cope with the new schedule, temporary sleeplessness, weakness, irritability and maybe reduced ability to concentrate. The brain may become confused or lost due to the imbalance of schedules.

  • Become Plane Savvy

If you are looking for a convenient method to overcome jet lag, you should think about becoming a plane savvy individual. This doesn’t mean that you need to have the ability to tell the model by just taking a look at a plane. Instead, you just need to understand the types of planes, which come along with advanced technologies to minimize jet lag. For example, you can find high tech humidification systems within some of the planes, which retain moisture in the air. On the other hand, some of the planes come along with LED lighting systems, which create a natural light. If you can select such a plane for your flight, after taking a look at the model, you will be able to minimize the chances of becoming a victim of jet lag.

  • Try Not to Arrive at Night

You should also try not to arrive at night. In other words, you must always try to arrive in daylight. This will provide an excellent assistance for you to stay awake. In fact, you will be provided with the temptation to go out and explore the sun. You need to keep this fact in mind when you are making the booking for your flight. Then you will be able to make sure that you don’t become a victim of jet lag.

  • Have a Good Sleep Before Flying

It is also possible for you to get a good sleep on the day before you fly. Unfortunately, most of the people don’t tend to pay attention to this fact. They deliberately try to skip their sleep, assuming that they will be able to refrain from jet lag. You should never do this mistake. It is important to take a good sleep on the night before you take your flight. Then you will find it as an easy task to adjust to the new time zone as well.

  • Relax on Your Schedule

When you are planning for the long journey, you should relax. If you try to prepare at the last minute, you will find it as a difficult task to relax. Hence, you will need to take appropriate steps in order to relax as much as possible. You need to follow a specific routine, at least for a couple of days. In other words, you need to get a good sleep of at least 8 hours a night and have a balanced diet for several days.

  • Never forget the workouts

Before and after your flight, you will need to keep on moving. This can be considered as another excellent step available for you to follow in order to minimize jet lag. When you are moving and working out, you will be able to keep the blood flowing. Blood circulation is a proven method available to minimize the effects that are created by jet lag.

  • Never consume any sleeping pills

You should never consume any sleeping pills when you go on a long journey to another time zone. Some people are addicted to sleeping pills. They will not be able to sleep, without relying on sleeping pills. If you are a person like that, you will need to pay special attention to this fact. The sleep pills have the ability to make you feel fuzzy along with jet lag. Hence, you should try to sleep in a natural way, without paying attention to sleeping pills.

  • Take a break from coffee

If you are a person who is addicted to coffee, you should figure out that it is not good for avoiding jet lag. Hence, you should learn to take a break from coffee as well. In fact, you will need to take a break from all beverages that come along with caffeine. They include energy drinks and cola drinks as well. If you want to let your body function normally, you will need to keep it hydrated as well. Hence, you will need to drink lots of water. Then you will be able to minimize the effects associated with jet lag.

  • Set up the watch

As soon as you get into the plane, you will need to set up the watch to match with the time of the destination. This is one of the tricks you can follow to minimize the effects of jet lag. In other words, this can be considered as a psychological effect that can trick your mind to overcome jet lag. But you need to make sure that you don’t configure the watch before boarding in. Otherwise, you will miss out your flight.

  • Have a balanced meal

Having a balanced meal with all essential nutrients is another great method available for you to follow and avoid jet lag. You need to define specific times to have your meals on a daily basis. Then you will be able to cater to the nutritional requirements of the body and make sure that it is strong. As a result, you will be able to minimize the chances of ending up with jet lag.

  • Stay away from the bar

You should also learn to stay away from the bar as much as possible. Some people will be tempted to kick off their holidays after a long journey. But if you do, you will be weakening your body. Hence, there is a high possibility for you to end up with jet lag. It is better to stay away from the bar at least for a couple of days.
